Dedicated Hosting Clarified

When we talk about web hosting servers, there are three basic kinds - hosting servers, VPS (virtual web servers) and dedicated servers. Shared hosting web servers host lots of clients and hence the system resources per web hosting account are restricted, VPS give you more configuration independence, but also influence other VPS servers on the hardware node if used heedlessly, and dedicated servers offer you the possibility to perform everything you wish without messing with anyone else.

Why would you need a dedicated servers?

Dedicated servers are generally much more expensive than shared hosting web servers or virtual private web hosting servers. Why would anyone, then, want to use them? The explanation is quite simple. If your company has a regularly visited website, or just has very special server configuration requirements, the most intelligent choice is a dedicated servers. For somebody who is inclined to invest in safety and stability, the greater price is of no concern. You get root access and can use 100 percent of the physical server's system resources without anyone else sharing these resources and intervening with your web sites.

Hardware architectures

Most hosting vendors, incl. us at BestServiceCloud, provide several different hardware configurations you can select from according to your requirements. The hardware architectures offer different kinds of microprocessors, a different amount of cores, different RAM memory and disk drive sizes and different bandwidth allowances. You can pick a web hosting CP, which is a convenient tool if you wish to use the dedicated servers for hosting purposes only and prefer not to use SSH for all the changes you will be making. We provide three types of hosting Control Panel software - Hepsia, DirectAdmin and cPanel.

The hosting Control Panel of your choice

If you are a self-confident Linux user (our hosting servers are running on Linux or other Unix-based OSs), you could administer your dedicated servers via a Secure Shell console only. That, however, could be awkward, especially if you wish to give full root-level access to somebody else who has less technical experience than yourself. This is why having hosting CP software pre-installed is an intelligent idea. The Hepsia web hosting CP user interface that we offer does not give you full server root privileges and is mostly appropriate for someone who runs a lot of online portals that consume lots of resources, but desires to administer the web sites, databases and email boxes through an intuitive web hosting CP. The DirectAdmin and cPanel Control Panels, on the other hand, give you full root privileges and include three levels of access - root, reseller and user. If you intend to resell hosting accounts rather than utilizing the dedicated servers only for yourself, you should select one of these two.

Web server monitoring and backup procedures

Last but not least, there is the matter of monitoring the dedicated servers and of backing it up. In case of a predicament with your dedicated web hosting server, such as a non-responsive Apache or an outage, it is useful to have some kind of monitoring platform enabled. Here at BestServiceCloud the system administrators monitor all dedicated servers for ping timeouts, and, if you order a Managed Services upgrade, they monitor the individual services on the dedicated servers as well. Backups are also an additional feature - the hosting solutions provider offers you data backups on our own backup servers. You could choose a type of RAID that would permit you to save the very same data on two server hard disks as a precaution in the event of a disk drive failure, or in case someone whom you have given complete server root access deletes something accidentally.
